I swear they should be called yellow-eye-patch sparrow.
We are getting a couple of these guys around our yard. They seem to prefer feeding on the ground around the feeder. I notice they are not as skittish as other species and are okay with us getting close.
I’m delighted as usual at their design – Mother Nature likes her black and white stripes and a dash of colour.






The book I am using for identifying birds is Birds of Eastern Canada. We keep it in the kitchen, the hub of the house and for quick access and part of our homeschooling lifestyle.
